Over the last few weeks, my life has exploded into a million tiny pieces and rearranged itself into a different shape. I was with my last girlfriend for 4 years. Part of me thought we were going to make a go of it, but sadly it was not to be. The relationship ended, and we’re both trying to move on. I finished my masters degree in August. Results came out last Wednesday, and I got a First...

Writing is Bad For You →
[T]he more I write the worse I become. More self-absorbed, less sensitive to the needs of others, less flexible, more determined to say what I have to say, when I want and how I want, if I could only be left alone to figure it out. I’m going to go ahead and blame my increasingly erratic and hermit-like behaviour on this phenomenon.

good time for pie.: Neil Gaiman's 8 Good Writing... →
goodtimeforpie: Write. Put one word after another. Find the right word, put it down. Finish what you’re writing. Whatever you have to do to finish it, finish it. Put it aside. Read it pretending you’ve never read it before. Show it to friends whose opinion you respect and who like the kind of thing that this… I’m in the middle of trying to write my dissertation for the creative...

Prostitution
Boss: “Hey, Dave. You know how this is the first nice evening we’ve had in a year?” Me: “Yes…” Boss: “And you know how you had plans to go out for pints with your good friend John that you haven’t seen an months?” Me: “Yes…” Boss: “Well how would you like to forget about those things, and instead spend your evening...

Kris Payne: Can anyone give me some... →
krispayne: Can anyone give me some recommendations for in-ear headphones? Things to keep in mind when offering your opinions: Apple’s standard headphones are too small and won’t fit in my giant ears. I like a good overall sound, nice highs, solid lows and a good mid-range. They should be self-powered but… I have a pair of Shure SE315’s that I love. They’re an IEM type...

Kris Payne: Mission Accomplished? →
edman: I woke up this morning to NPR, and the big headline is that Osama Bin Laden has been killed. They were reporting live from the WTC Memorial in New York, and I could hear people in the crowd singing “God Bless America.” The September 11th attacks were a tragedy that took nearly 3,000…

I Want To Open A Restaurant.
We’ll serve burgers, fries and chicken wings. Nothing else. We’ll serve bottles of beer in buckets of ice. We’ll only open for three months a year, and every time it’ll be somewhere different. We’ll stay open late every night, and party till the small hours of the morning. We’ll host gigs at the weekend and poetry readings during the week. It will be...

Ireland, I Owe You An Apology.
I was standing outside the Olympia Theater today, waiting to meet the girlfriend. At the corner of the building, a group of tweenagers chattered and bounced around, obviously excited by something they could see down the alley. Then I noticed other people stopping, smiling, and taking out cameras. I decided to investigate. I walked over to the alley, and glanced over the heads of the crowd that...

It’s shit like this right here. This kind of staggering, incomprehensible idiocy that we put up with in Ireland.
